Position closed 04 February 2008 Open position at Lund University in southern Sweden for a Postdoctorate position in the field of polymers and membranes for fuel cells. The Division of Polymer & Materials Chemistry at Lund University in southern Sweden offers a scholarship for a Postdoctorate position for the duration of one year (with a possibility of extension another year) in the field of polymers and membranes for fuel cells. The performance and durability of proton-exchange membrane fuel cells is today very much determined by the nature and limitations of the polymer membrane. In the current project we will explore the functions of new types of proton conducting polymers, and the project will include the molecular design and synthesis of polymers by various polymerisations and chemical modifications. We invite applications from candidates with a strong background in synthetic polymer chemistry with an experience with polymerization procedures and characterization techniques. A successful applicant should be able to integrate into a creative and interdisciplinary working environment, and collaborate with other research groups within the framework of an integrated European project. Interested candidates should submit a CV and a list of publications : For more information on Division of Polymer & Materials Chemistry at Lund University: Web page | |

Position closed 04 September 2007 Open positions at Paul Scherrer Institut. The Fuel Cell Group at Paul Scherrer Institut is committed to the polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC), in particular to the field of membrane and electrocatalyst materials research and development on the one hand, and the development of advanced in situ diagnostic tools on the other hand. The projects range from fundamental investigations in electrochemistry and polymer science to component development and application in the fuel cell. A significant number of industrial collaborations, e.g. with the automotive industry, has strengthened the group's international network and its project management competence. The double-edged strategy is to gain understanding of fundamental processes in the fuel cell with respect to performance and durability, as well as devise and develop innovative fuel cell materials concepts. Currently Open Positions: 1. PhD Position on 'Advanced Diagnostics for the Characterization of Fuel Cell Membrane Degradation' Read more.... 2. PhD Position on 'In situ diagnostics for Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells (PEFC)' Read more.... 3. PhD Position on 'Electrocatalysts for Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells (PEFC)' Read more.... 4. 22 March 2007 First announcement for the Carisma School and Workshop on fundamental and applied aspects of PEM fuel cell membrane materials preparation and characterisation, with particular emphasis on medium and high temperature PEMFC operation. A joint School and Workshop will be held on proton conducting membrane materials jointly organised by the Carisma work-packages "High temperature Membranes" and "Proton transfer mechanisms" dealing with fundamental considerations in the design of membranes for PEM fuel cell application, consideration of proton conduction mechanisms operating in low relative humidity environments, consideration of current approaches and strategies to the preparation and characterisation of ionomers and membranes for operation at the medium and high temperatures required for stationary and automotive application. Proceedings of the workshop will be published as a state of the art report. This joint school and workshop will be held in the Stuttgart area, and will include a visit of Daimler-Chrysler's Fuel Cell car production facility. School: 8th - 9th November 2007 Workshop: 12 - 14th November 2007 Stuttgart, Germany |
